Core Requirement 2.7.4: Course Work for Degrees

The institution provides instruction for all course work required for at least one degree program at each level at which it awards degrees. If the institution does not provide instruction for all such course work and (1) makes arrangements for some instruction to be provided by other accredited institutions or entities through contracts or consortia or (2) uses some other alternative approach to meeting this requirement, the alternative approach must be approved by the Commission on Colleges. In both cases, the institution demonstrates that it controls all aspects of its educational program.

The University of South Florida Sarasota-Manatee (USF Sarasota-Manatee) offers all lower-level, upper-level, and graduate course work for 17 active bachelor’s degrees and 7 active master’s degrees. Note that course work is not being offered currently for three degree programs that are inactive with no enrollment and will not accept applications until demand increases: Early Childhood EducationMA in Elementary Education, and MA in Reading Education.

At the undergraduate level, the B.S. in Biology degree program has eight (8) courses that are state-mandated common prerequisites, fourteen (14) courses that are Biology core requirements, and 22 elective courses of which students must take twelve (12) credit hours. The USF Sarasota-Manatee Academic Catalog contains an Undergraduate Course Descriptions list that describes all 44 of these courses. Students register for them in the Online Access Student Information System, OASIS Online Scheduling System.

At the graduate level, the Master of Business Administration (MBA) requires 40 credit hours. Students can complete all of the MBA courses through USF Sarasota-Manatee: 24 credits in 12 managerial tool courses, 12 credits in required application courses, and 4 credits in the Integrated Application course. USF Sarasota-Manatee’s Academic Catalog’s Graduate Course Descriptions lists and describes all of the MBA courses, and students can register for them in  OASIS.

USF Sarasota-Manatee also offers the Associate of Arts certificate upon student request to those who have successfully completed all requirements for this degree in accordance with Florida Statutes 1007.23 and 1007.25, the Florida Administrative Code, Sec. 6A-10.024, and policies delineated under Associate of Arts Certificate Requirements in the Academic Catalog. As part of the baccalaureate, USF Sarasota-Manatee offers all of the necessary courses to fulfill the Associate of Arts certificate requirements.
